Research Agenda Setting Conference on the Informal Economy
Vineyard Hotel Cape Town, South Africa

Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) is hosting an international research conference on the informal economy in Cape Town, South Africa on March 25th and 26th, 2011. Sixty participants from 17 different countries, predominantly long standing experts in the field, will be attending. This is a working conference in which speakers are being asked, not to present their most recent research, but to reflect on a set of questions or issues posed to them. The conference aims to explore the state of knowledge on key debates with a view to identifying the critical future research gaps on the informal economy. The conference will concentrate in part, but not exclusively, on three countries – South Africa, India and Mexico.
