On April 11th, 2011 the Homebased Women Workers Federation, HomeNet Pakistan and HomeNet South Asia joined for the first annual convention of Homebased workers in Karachi, Pakistan.
Over 2500 home-based workers from Pakistan were expected to attend in addition to home-based workers from Nepal. Home-based workers from India and Bangladesh were unable to attend due to some logistical issues but hope to attend next year’s convention. Demands during the convention included:
a) Recognition and visibility of home-based workers;
b) National policies on home-based workers;
c) Social security for home-based workers;
d) Ratification of C. 177, the ILO Home Workers Convention.
